Afternoon in Buxton

Wow, I can't believe it's September already, where has the year gone? It's been a busy few weeks; our friends Craig and Tracy are getting married next week so we've been off to the hen and stag parties.
The bank holiday weekend was lovely. Ste and I went to Buxton for the day, one of our favourite places to visit. Unfortunately the weather was pretty wet but after a pub lunch it brightened up and we were able to have a walk around. There's a few vintage and antique shops in the centre so we checked them out. We did see a few things we liked but we haven't got the room in our house.
Further up the street I took a photo of this amazing book shop that looks like something out of a Harry Potter film...

China Plate Wallpaper

I came across this wallpaper in a magazine recently and I really want it! The pattern is made up of photos of different china plates and looks really effective. Trouble is I don't really have anywhere for it to go in my house and it's pretty pricey at £120 a roll. Still it'd work out cheaper than collecting plates and less risk of them getting damaged by my cat!

Hannah Zakari

Whilst browsing Domestic Sluttery (see blog archive) I clicked through to this gem. Hannah Zakari makes some of the most beautiful, unique jewellery I've seen. It's the brainchild of Rachael Lamb who decided to create her own line of jewellery and bags as an alternative to the mass produced stuff available from the high street. Rachael uses Hannah Zakari to promote all the smaller, independent designers out there both from the UK and overseas. The name she's chosen is taken from the japanese "hanazakari" which means blossom and was picked after a trip to Japan in the spring.

Here's a selection of my favourite items, I want them all!

Domestic Sluttery

I came across this very tongue in cheek blog recently, but it's not as racy as the name suggests. Domestic Sluttery describes itself as "the home and lifestyle blog for women who have better things to do" and I'm already a fan. It's written by a group of ladies who all cook, decorate and design but write their blogs in a cool, feisty way. They've got loads food and drink, fashion and beauty and, may favourite, design porn snippets. Inspired...

Mulberry 'Alexa'

I adore Mulberry bags especially their Alexa bag, created and name after the effortlessly cool Alexa Chung. Of course, Alexa herself is rarely seen without one, she's probably got one in every size and colour! Unfortunately, I'll need to save up for a long time before I could afford my own (sigh).

The British Connection

During a few outings I've noticed that Union Jack themed furnishing are popular now. As a huge fan of all things shabby chic, I love them and have my own flag cushion proudly displayed of the sofa bed in the spare bedroom. After a bit of further reading I discovered it was fashionable in the 60's and it seems as we're hosting the 2012 olympics, it's starting to make a comeback. Here's a few nice examples I've found online.

Love the stamp cushions!
